How to Use Two-Step Verification to Secure Your Gmail Account

Gmail account is loaded with a number of critical and personal information. Email accounts should be protected with a sturdy password. But sometimes, just having a password is not enough. A two-way verification system may assist you in keeping your account safe from the threats that lurk in the digital world.

  1. Just sign in to your Google account.
  2. Go to your profile picture located at the top-right edge of your mail inbox and then tap on it.
  3. From the resulting menu option, click on Google Account.
  4. Then a new window will open. On the left side of it, there is a security tab under the menu button at the leftmost side of the screen. Tap on the “Security” tab.
  5. Now you have to scroll down to log in to your Google account.
  6. Now click on the “2-Step Verification” option.
  7. After that scroll down to the bottom of the page and then tap on the “Get Started” button.
  8. In this process of 2-step verification, you will be asked to provide your contact number under the particular field. A pop-up box will open and ask you whether you want to get your verification code via call or text. If you selected via call option, then Google will send you an authentication code by call otherwise it will provide you a text message.
  9. Types the code in the field provided on the screen and then tap on the “Next” button.
  10. Tap on the Next button now.
  11. Now you will be taken back to the two-point verification settings page. It enables you to modify or choose another method to authenticate your account.
In case you don’t want to verify your account or settings via phone call or text. Scroll down the bar through the slider and choose any other option that you want.
Resetting Gmail multi factor verification process 
Turning off 2- factor authentication for Google account is very easy; these are the steps to do that:
  1. First of all, tap on the account settings menu and go to the “2- Step Verification” tab.
  2. In case the prompt comes, provide your Google account password and tap on the login button.
  3. Hit the “Turn Off” 2-stage verification option at the upper portion of the window.
  4. Then the Google will take your consent whether you wish to disable/deactivate two-factor authentication. If you really desire to do so. Tap on the “Turn Off” option located at the lower right portion of the message.
Wait for a while until the process gets changed into your desired settings. It will enable Google to return to the previous settings where you first enabled the two-stage verification under the settings menu.
